Yes. Milk teeth can get cavities and need to be treated. As soon as teeth appear in the mouth, decay can occur. Avoid giving sweetened milk bottle to the baby while he/she is sleeping to avoid chances of decay.

How can the dentist protect the child’s teeth ?

As the child’s permanent teeth erupt, the dentist can prevent cavities with the help of sealants and fluoride treatment.

PIT AND FISSURE SEALANTS

Sealants are safe, painless and low cost way to protect your child’s teeth from decay. The sealant is bonded to the chewing surface of posterior teeth thus, preventing tooth from decay.

FLUORIDE APPLICATION

It is a single sitting procedure wherein fluoride paste is dispensed on moldable tray provided by your dentist which helps to protect your teeth prone to decay. It is done in every 6 months to make the tooth structure strong and healthy.

SPACE MAINTAINERS

Children's Milk teeth are very important because they not only help in chewing and speaking but also maintain space for permanent teeth which is developing underneath. Milk teeth are the pathway for the permanent teeth to grow.

A milk tooth usually stays until a permanent tooth replaces it. Unfortunately some children lose their teeth at an early age. This causes adjacent teeth to move in place of the fallen teeth there by causing crowding. This can be prevented by the use of space maintainers. It is more affordable and easier to keep teeth in normal position rather than going in for the orthodontic treatment at a later age.
